What is ozone?

Coop!

I don't know if you are familiar with the name ozone?

Today, the editor will come to chat with you about ozone

"Past and Present"

Ozone (O?), also known as superoxide, is an allotrope of oxygen (O?). At room temperature, it is a light blue gas with a special odor.

It is mainly distributed in the stratospheric atmosphere at a height of 10~50km, and the maximum value is between 20~30km height. Under normal temperature and pressure, it has poor stability and can be decomposed into oxygen by itself.

Ozone has the smell of grass, inhaling a small amount is beneficial to the human body, and inhaling too much is harmful to human health.

The role of ozone

However, the role of ozone today is not only to protect human beings and reduce the damage of ultraviolet rays, but also has another use, that is, sterilization.

Three ways of ozone sterilization:

  1. Ozone can oxidize and decompose the enzymes needed to degrade glucose inside the bacteria, so that the TCA cycle cannot be carried out, resulting in the inability to supply the ATP required for cell life activities, and the bacteria are inactivated and died.
  2. Directly interact with bacteria and viruses, destroy their organelles, DNA and RNA, destroy the metabolism of bacteria, and cause bacterial death.
  3. Through the cell membrane tissue, invade the cell, act on the lipoprotein of the outer membrane and the lipopolysaccharide inside, so that the bacteria undergo permeability distortion and dissolve and die.

Advantages of ozone sterilization

Comparison of sterilization data between ozone sterilization and mainstream sterilization methods

  • Efficient sterilization. As a strong oxidant, ozone has 50 times the bactericidal ability and 3,000 times the bactericidal speed of chlorine, which can effectively kill various bacteria, viruses and microorganisms.
  • Safe to sterilize. The ozone is used for sterilization and finally decomposed and reduced to oxygen, and there is no chlorine residue. There is no damage to the environment, while avoiding the risk of scalding from hot water high-temperature disinfection. At the same time, ozone can oxidize the cell wall of bacteria and destroy bacterial cells without producing drug resistance.
  • Energy saving. The ozone laundry system can be washed in cold water (below 40 ℃) throughout the whole process, and at the same time adopts a fast washing process, which can reduce energy consumption.
  • Save on detergent. Ozone can effectively decompose the stains, bacteria and viruses remaining in the textile during the cleaning process, reducing the use of detergents.

Extend clothing life. Using ozone to disinfect and sterilize clothes is conducive to making the clothes softer and more logical. Reduces the use of hot water, chemicals, and shortens drying time, helping to protect clothing.

Compared with the chlorine used in traditional disinfection, ozone sterilization is faster, safer, and does not leave residues or damage items.

However, the stability of ozone in the air is poor, and ozone gas has no directionality, usually it is directly spilled, so the general use of ozone gas sterilization is ineffective, and it will also corrode equipment and affect the environment;

Therefore, the modern use of ozone disinfection and sterilization is not the use of ozone gas, but the use of ozone water.

Ozone water not only has better disinfection and sterilization ability than ozone gas, but also has no impact on the environment.
