Nitrogen is mainly used as a protective gas and a purge gas in steel companies. For example, in slag splashing furnace protection technology, nitrogen is used as a spray gas. Nitrogen is also used as a powder transfer agent for gas supply, instrument gas, gas resistance gas, etc. Argon is mainly used to improve the quality of steel.
For example, blowing argon gas into the molten steel to obtain uniform composition and purify it to remove impurities such as hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen dissolved in the steel, thereby improving the quality of the workpiece. The widespread nitrogen consumption of cast iron, steel, and rolled steel is 80-120m3/t, and the widespread consumption of argon is 3-4m3/t of steel.

Application of Nitrogen in Steel Plants
Mainly used as a protective gas for steel coils, galvanizing, chromium plating, heat treatment (especially thin steel) continuous casting, etc.Using nitrogen as the protective gas, the required purity for nitrogen is 99.999%.
The chemical inertness of argon is used to melt special metals: argon is used as natural gas to reduce rare metals required by the nuclear industry and aerospace industry, such as lithium, beryllium, uranium, plutonium, titanium, zirconium, americium, niobium and tantalum. In the purification of silicon and germanium semiconductor materials and some crystal preparation processes, argon should also be used as an environmental gas to protect the crystal growth of aluminum alloy bridge doors and windows.
Argon gas should also be used in the steel production process: for example, blowing argon gas into the molten steel to make the composition uniform, purifying the molten steel, removing impurities such as hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen dissolved in the molten steel, thereby improving the quality of the workpiece. Argon gas can also make the recovery period obsolete, shorten the melting time, increase production, and save energy. Argon blowing protection is an important way to improve the quality of steel, and there are a large number of steel mills in China using it.
